26 cats rescued and transported to Cat Depot

SARASOTA, FL — Cat Depot’s Emergency Response Team (CDERT) deployed to an undisclosed location in DeSoto County and rescued 26 cats. All cats were tested and examined on site and transported to Cat Depot. The cats have potentially been exposed to a series of viral diseases and are in quarantine under medical care for a minimum of 30 days, and then retested. Some of the cats have parasites, fleas, and upper respiratory, with several cases of severe dental disease.

The public can help with supplies needed: newspapers, disposable aluminum roasting pans (16 1/8” x 11 ¾”), and CD’s with soothing music. Donations can be dropped off at the Cat Depot front desk seven days a week. Due to this unexpected increase in emergency cat care, volunteers are greatly needed to help clean the shelter every day at 8 a.m. Please contact Joe Landmichl if you are interested in helping at 941-366-2404, ext. 316.

Cash donations are also welcomed to provide emergency medical care, food and supplies. Donations can be made at www.catdepot.org.

“CDERT worked late into the night to process 43 cats in one day. We are grateful for everyone’s full cooperation to help the cats,” said Shelley Thayer, executive director, Cat Depot. “By working together, we are able change the destiny of these deserving animals. Cat Depot has lead rescue efforts in Charlotte, Manatee and Sarasota Counties, but this is our first rescue effort in DeSoto County. There is no humane society in DeSoto County, only Animal Services, who was very pleased that Cat Depot was willing to help.”
